DC Farewell Upholstery Workshop - Final Class
Nicole Crowder Upholstery is moving to the West Coast at the close of the year, but before we go we wanted to have one last workshop as a way to say farewell, DC, and thank you!
Nicole's upholstery courses look to give upholstery and home decor enthusiasts basic skills and tips on how to approach small projects like chairs, benches, and ottomans, with the hopes of empowering you with confidence to tackle even larger projects at home.
Arts Walk Brookland // 716 Monroe St NE. It’s the studio on the left at the bottom of the arts walk if you are walking down the hill.
$200/person (session is 3 hours)
Limited to 10
(Please note: if someone is unable to use their ticket, the next person on the wait list will be notified that a space has been made available. Not additional spaces will be made available in order to adhere to CDC guidelines)
What you'll learn in the session
-How to properly and safely tear down and reupholster small chairs using certain tools.
-Fabric and yardage, and determining how much to use on various projects.
-Materials needed for padding and reupholstering.
-Short cuts to help achieve the job with maximum results
What to bring:
-Your favorite fabric. If you are unsure about yardage needed to upholster your piece, please e-mail Nicole prior to each class. Usually for small projects, 1/2-2 yards is plenty. I am happy to guide you on whether your yardage is enough. I will also have spare fabric remnants on hand.
-Your small chair or bench.
- All tools, foam and/or cotton needed to re-pad your item will be provided to the class. No worry about that!
How should I dress?
Please be sure to wear your face mask, closed-toe shoes and clothing that fits closer to your body. There will be staples and tacks and nails on the floor.
Protective eye wear will not be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own set.
Please note all chairs, benches, and small ottomans must be approved by Nicole before each class. While armed chairs are welcome, open-armed chairs are best for beginning-level classes. Please e-mail a photo of your item at least two weeks prior to your scheduled class session to email@example.com. You can also view the style of chairs that are and are not permitted via the "Workshops" highlight on Nicole's Instagram page.
Large upholstery projects will not be permitted. These include:
-Fully reupholstered chairs
-Settees or love seats
-Chairs, benches or ottomans that require cushions be made or sewn.
-Large, overstuffed chairs that require additional upholstery tools/techniques
-Large barrel chairs.
If your chair requires sewing, painting, staining or sanding, please be sure to complete those finishes prior to the class as we will only focus on the basics of upholstery dealing with fabric and materials. Chairs that will require piping/trim for a completed look are accepted, but please note piping will need to be sewn independently.
Please read all disclaimers regarding approved chairs before reserving your spot. If you have any questions, please e-mail Nicole at firstname.lastname@example.org prior to registering.
All upholstery sessions are non-refundable. If you have already paid for a course but are no longer able to attend on the day you registered you can opt to sell or give another attendee your ticket. Unfortunately makeup sessions will not be possible.
Please note: If you have signed up for a class and your furniture item--for reasons listed above--is not approved, a refund will not be issued.
