Minneapolis Upholstery Workshop: April 13, 2026
Come learn hands-on upholstery techniques from acclaimed upholsterer Nicole Crowder of Nicole Crowder Upholstery,
Each class is set up to help you be able to strip and reupholster a simple chair within the three hour framework.
TIME: 11pm-2pm
Location: Minneapolis // Studio location TBA
What is included in registration:
-All tools to be used during the workshop. *Please note: tools are for the workshop use only.
-Multiple hand picked fabrics to choose from. you are also welcome to bring your own fabrics.
-All padding material like foam and cotton and Dacron needed to repad your chairs.
Note: Separate from the workshop, Nicole has launched her first custom Upholstery Starter Kit. If you would like to purchase a kit you can do so here. While not mandatory for the workshop and not included in the workshop registration, you are welcome to purchase a kit in advance and bring it with you to be used there. Starter Kits will also be available to purchase on-site after the workshop.
What you should bring:
-Your own chair to be worked on. Please email Nicole a photo of your intended chair for approval no later than one week prior to your class date at crowder.nicole@gmail.com. Nicole can also provide you examples of chair types that are allowed. Please email is you would like any examples.
-Comfortable clothes for upholstery which include closed- toe shoes. Goggles or gloves are optional.
Chairs/furniture not permitted:
Large or overstuffed chairs that require more time and work than the introductory class structure allows. Anything that requires new springs to be added or replaced or that may require extensive woodwork or cushions to be made or sewn. Chairs that require extensive removal of nail heads, tax strips or more advanced upholstery materials not provided by this class. This class will not involve sewing. Certain types of armchairs are allowed, but a reference photo is required.

Is My Chair Allowed?
You can email Nicole at crowder.nicole@gmail.com with a photo of the specific chair or piece. You can also email Nicole to inquire about sample photos of chairs that are allowed or to submit a photo of your piece that you hope to bring to see if it is approved.
Can I register with a friend?
Yes! These classes are great for attending with a friend or a family member. Each of you will need to purchase a ticket, but you are welcome to partner up and work on the same chair or piece of furniture together.
What if I signed up and I’m no longer able to attend the class?
If you are no longer able to attend the session, you can transfer your ticket to someone else who might be able to attend. Or if there is availability in the next class, you can move your date. This option is not guaranteed.
Refunds?
Tickets are nonrefundable, but they are transferable if you are not able to attend the class. If your furniture item is not approved a refund is not provided. Please ensure your furniture item is approved either prior to registering OR no less than one week before the class by emailing Nicole.
What if I have never approached upholstery before? Can I still attend?
Absolutely! These classes are structured for beginners who have never approached upholstery or who may have approached it lightly in the past. No prior experience is needed.
Will I get to keep my chair that I reupholster in the class?
Yes! As you are providing your own chair, you will be able to take that home with you.
Will I get to keep the tools after the workshop?
No. Tools provided by Nicole for the workshop are for the workshop purposes only. However, if you purchased a starter kit to be used during the workshop you of course will get to keep that and all its tools.
